1.4 t'box?

if i were to fit a 1.4 transfer box to the disco but leave it on the 31 inch tyres, would it still be able to cruise at 60-70 mph without reving the pistons out of the bonnet?

with the standard Disco T box in and 31 inch tyres you should be able to do 70 plus without any problems.
Mine has 35's on with a standard disco t box and that will do 70 plus at 3000 rpm.

no sorry, wanting to reduce the standard disco gearing to that of a defender for high range when towing, to reduce strain on every thing.

Range Rover Blues:
You'll end up doing the same sort of speed as a standard Disco,. just remmeber the speedo will be reading slower ;)
