Range Rover Blues:
It's one possibility yes, can you borrow one to try because if could be something else, the EFi will listen to the lambdas rather than the MAF apparently, but a dodgy MAF will  still cause problems.

The EFi compares MAF and throttle position readings for one thing.

Anyway, I just bought a new MAF for

Yeap. although it was running rich as hell for the MOT so it may need a tune-up, though it's possible the original one was modyfied I thought it ran fine with a spare used MAF.

I gave mine a clean with carb cleaner and it appears to have got rid of the problem for now.
