1999 diesel boiling up

(1/2) > >>

topless matt:
Hi, i have a friend who has a 1999 diesel freelander.
When towing the caravan the other day, it boiled up, pulled over and let it cool down, found the water to be coming from the cap on the expansion tank.
Re filled it and limped it home.
Fitted a new tank and cap...genuine.... and it still boils up.
There is no water in the sump and there is just a slight bubble every now and then in the expansion tank.
Cooling fans dont come on even when engine has been run a considerable time, fuses are all fine.
Any ideas on what it could be.
I personally think it could be a defective thermostat but would like too see if there are any other ideas

Thanks
Matt

Llanigraham:
Unusual for that on the old L series. Probably a good idea to check the 'stat.

topless matt:
Yeah, will do. i will get him a new stat and replace it to see if that helps.
Just seems odd that the fans dont come on

Landy1uk:
Hi ya!!!

Just a thought , you've already probly checked the connector where the loom plugs in to the Fans. on mine theclip had losened off so we just reshaped the clip with pliers the type with metal spring clip.
