They are indeed. I seem to remember reading somewhere that welded arms aren't allowed for road use? This may be one of those internet rumours however!

Id suggest that it's an internet rumour. There's more vehicles than just landys out there ;)  All Isuzu's have welded tubular trailing arms on them for example.
