A/T mode

Hi all.
A neighbour has just got him self a 3000 v6 on 1996. Auto

The difflock button is self explanetary but in the centre near the hand break is another button with A/T MODE on it. when you push it forward a PWR symbol comes on the dash and when you push it back it says HOLD ????
Any ideas what this is  :-k
