V8 timing

Have strobe timed my 3.5 Efi and it still runs like a pig.....
I have a vaccuum gauge I used to use and was thinking of using this.
Where would be the best place to put it, the dizzy is not strong enough. would it work on the pipe behind the inlet plenum?

Dizzy vacuum takeoff is masked by the throttle disc anyway, and would tell lies. Might be convenient to tee into the fuel regulator line as that is small bore (you have checked that is not perished already?) or the brake servo before the valve

Thanks Rossko, I remember a bit better now, it was the 4 cylinder motorbikes we used to use them on for fault diagnostics and carb balancing ;)
The rangie is running lpg so the fuel reg pipe will be best ;)

Had a look earlier...
Ran steady 16 on tickover (says on gague late ign timing) or slight wear in piston rings. when open thottle drops and rises as per link all with steady readings
Will undo dizzy when I get a minute and see if I can improve the readings ;)
Range Rover Blues:
You won't get them very high on a V8 anyway Steve because of the valve overlap from one cylinder to another.
Have you cheked the advance mechanisms on the dizzy?
