Bad GV oil leak!
« on: April 15, 2010, 11:49:41 »
Well bad enough.....

My GV seems to be loosing around 2 litres of oil a week at the moment and i'm not sure where it's comming from. I have been underneath the car and found that it is running down the back of the sump but the sump is all intact. Are there any seals around the top of the sump it could be comming from?

If it makes a difference it is the 2.5 V6 engine.

Thanks,

Mark

It could be the sump gasket, try looking from the top of the engine and work your way down till you find the source of the leak.

Well it's not the rocker covers or oil filter, I checked them and they are both fine. I noticed that the top of the sump seems to be dry but when underneath the car the oil is running down the back of the sump and the big round thing behind it (clutch? ) The gap is only just big enough to put my hand up and get it covered in oil but I can't see up there.

Any ideas? Is there a seal up there or pipe which could need replacing?

Is this located where the join in the sump is around half way up? The oil is on the sump above that joint so don't think it would be that.

mmm, I am brave but sadly rubbish at mechanics and would probably break something knowing me. Don't suppose you know of any guides on the internet to removing the gearbox?
