prop?
discoarden:
on a 300tdi disco
driving home car started to judder nursed it home and got underneath grabbed a few things and noticed on the front prop if you hold the flange still there is still movement on the prop ( worn universal joint?) it only does it at the transfer box end
is this the cause of the judder?
i cant undo the bolts so can i drive it to the garage?
and is it expensive?
any help please
Range Rover Blues:
Sounds like a UJ, common problem. You need 2 14mm spanners, or 9/16s better. You can't get in with a socket you'll need the proper tool.

yes this will be the juder.. you can drive it but I wouldent risk it. ive done 30 mile before now on a busted uj but if it did let go would probly bust a hole in your floor. If you can get access to a vice a uj is realy easy to do. there about £6 from ebay. you dont need that tool to get them of I have managed without one for 2 years.. chock up the back wheels and jack one front wheel of the ground you will then be able to spinn the prop round as your undoing the nuts.

Range Rover Blues:
No you don't need it, in fact I prefer to use spanners but if the nuts are overtight then open ended spanners (the type you'll need) might flex and slip off.
Once the UJ starts to collapse it will start to damage the yoke, even if it doesn't collapse.
