Advice on using a Snorkel with LPG
stevepage3:
Hi All
I have a 3.9v8 Disco and wanted to fit a safari snorkel. Someone has suggested that this is not a good idea as i run both petrol and LPG.
Any thoughts.

Lpg dont like to much air flow. Should be ok if you turn the top around so it faceing the rear. Sure someone else in the know may know something new.

I dont think it would make any difference. All you are doing is extending the air intake from the original filter box you arnt removing filters or restrictions of any kind. You may have to turn the top around to face the rear but this is probabily a good idea no matter what engine you have to stop the rain etc being forced down the intake.
But what do i know i aint got a snorkel yet

I could never get a straight answer out of anyone. I'm still waiting for a Snorkel wearing V8 LPG disco to come along and prove if it is true or not.
One side says it will muck it up the other moan as the pipework is restrictive and it looses air. I would like to know as i have had a few close calls now and getting a little worried that i'm going to drown it one day in a puddle.

I also am having trouble getting an answer.
I have now spoken to several people who say it will not work, but none of them are talking from experience. I have however spoken to a company that specialize in LPG conversions and they tell me that it is possible, but may require some fiddling with restricting the airflow to get it to run properly.
I would have thought that the airflow from a snorkel was less than that from the standard airbox, as the pipework must restrict the airflow, any thoughts ?
I now have a real dilemma, do I bite the bullet and cut a hole in the side of my disco only to find it wont run properly or do I just sit back and hope that I don't get it to deep when I go to Billing in a couple of weeks. ?
