Do you mean the fan, or the heater blowing hot or cold?

lurch_917:
it could be stuck brushes in the heater motor had this on my 300 tdi . remove the cowling under the glove box and theres 3 philips screws holding the motor into the box when removed the brushes are visable spray well with wd40 and see if it frees them up when done refit is the reverse

ian clarke:
many thanks for that will do it  as the weather  gets fine out their

clover:
No you won't. Yours is a 200 and his is a 300. Different heater assemblies. You will be sorely disappointed!

On a 200 you can't get the motor out in situ. Most people just get a secondhand heater unit and through the old one away.

You have to take the dash out (not as scary as it sounds) to get at the heater and by the time you have done that you might as well replace the whole unit.
