Mine is 2004 and does NOT have diff lock, although it does have the sticker inside to show it etc. However it has TC and Hill Descent which combine to do a better job - I think.

Thanks for all your comments once it stops raining i'll go and have look underneath to confirm on the plus side im getting more used to the cars auto change and on the mountain roads around here im putting it into 3 on the box which seems to be better suited

mike142sl:
You do know that putting it in 3 only prevents it changing above that (sorry if it's teaching to such eggs but I've come across people who think it puts it in 3 only) Secondly do you have S mode? as that delays the gear change.

disco2 td5:
i use 3rd on the auto sometimes works wonders with the heavy trailer on the back and steep hills seams alot happyer rather than messing about between 3rd n 4th which i find it does quite abit on 40 -50 mph roads  once you hit 55mph it will lock up in 4th or 3rd if its in either gear
and i low range the mode button on the gear box operates the manual mode so 1st uses only 1st, 2nd uses only 2nd and so on

martyn:
yes thanks but i did know about the gear only going up from 1st 2nd 3rd but as disco 2 turbo mentions when you are between gears in my case 3/4 the mountain roads are steep and lots of airpin bends its seems to be caught between 3/4

Yes i do have a sport mode which does help but im going to chip it does anyone know of a reputable person to do the job in the south wales area
