200 tdI track rod ends.
« on: February 13, 2010, 18:36:55 »
I have just found out that my disco uses 2 right hand thread track rod end ball joints. I bought a left and a right wrongly presuming thats what was fitted. :(
Could it be that some models were fitted with a LH thread and a RH thread on each side and some came with a normal thread on each end of the track rod with an adjuster bar to lengthen the track rod. Even the guy that sold me the ball joints said he thought it was unusual to use 2 the same thread. Will have to wait until monday now, before i can finish the job.[!Expletive Deleted!]......

Rangys have 2 right hands with i 6inch left hand adjuster. Defenders have a left and right hand track rod ends. All the bars are interchangable so doesnt really matter which one you have.

that makes sense, i did'nt realise that until i came to fit them. mines the one with the 6"adjuster bar. i fitted the RH thread ball joint into one end of the  track rod and then spent about 30 minutes wondering why i coulod'nt get the threads to catch using the left hand thread  ball joint into the other end. i only realised when i tried the right hand ball joint and screwed it into both ends.  :-o

RRC and Disco have a bracket for the steering damper, so the track rod can only face one direction.  Defender has the damper up front with a different drag link knuckle, so it can have a simpler and cheaper track rod.
