heater troubles...

the car heater isnt working properly. heres what i have found out......
.....when selected to cold the heater blower switch works on both I,II,and III settings. also works on aircon mode. but if i slide selecter to hot i get nothing at all. if i put heater blower to off position then across to either I,II,or III it makes a funny noise then nothing. any ideas?
