alright guys been thinking of geting a bike for the sumer Im not sure what yet mabey an old beat out yz or maybe if i have the cash a old honder cr
my question is what is the necesary maintanance of a 2 stroke. do you have to rebuild them all the time or is this only for race performance? ive only ever had 4stroke bikes

dxmedia:
Shoudn't ever need to rebuild them really. As long as the fueling is not messed with or increased along side any de-restriction (not running lean) there shouldn't be any piston problems, and apart from that, there's nothing else in a stroker.
Great little bikes, my old 125 KMX was more than capable of 85.
Lumbering Jack:
Crossers do tend to be a little more "needy" than a traily would be but a lot depends on how you ride it - use decent 2 stroke oil, don't thrash nuts off it and it should be fairly reliable. Generally a bigger CC will have been thrashed less.
I had a KMX 125 too when I was 17 - we took the airbox lid off and the neck out of the front pipe and it went awesome - better than my CR at the time (and then went bang) - as DX said - if derestricting then watch out for running lean and melting the piston

also a vote for a kmx as me and i m8 had one offroad and it wasnt far off toucing 90mph, then i got an 1989 rm 250 and that nearly pulled the skin off ya face lol, if i was to have another 1 it'd definatly be the old rm :D
dxmedia:
KMX 125 and the RM 125, pretty much the most stolen bikes of all time
One wire and your away...
That's something to bare in mind though. Scally [!Expletive Deleted!] will just pick em up and throw them in to the back of a van, so disk locks aren't worth it. Chain em down every time.
