Sad to see :(
« on: January 14, 2010, 13:08:04 »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8458844.stm

Why were they told off???

Its not like they were on their way to an emergency call??

It shows our bobbies as human beings rather than robots who just tell us off!!!

I defy anyone to say they have never fooled around at work at some point. These guys were just doing what every other employee has done at some point. And a happy employee is a better employee. As long as they aren't affecting their work negatively, then I can't see the problem.

Im sorry, did the Supt think that he employed a load of robots? Fair play to them as far as I am concerned. They do a damn good job (when the senior management let them) and put up with all manner of abuse.

Chances are that they wouldn't have been able to respond to an incident anyway (unless on foot or via 4wd). I'm sure it provoked a few smiles off members of the public and made the kids present see the officers as human beings, not as police officers or 'them'.

I can imagine the meeting in the Superintendent's office.

"I haf been told zat zere hass been an outbreak of morale in my reich, sorry, division. Zis will not be tolerated! How dare you show ze public that we might be able to think freely! Report to HQ for re-education"

It did amuse me when I read this. I was doing that years ago, before Youtube, and getting away with it! They work even better when towed behind a Plod Landy across a snow covered field.

Good on the  TVP bods for having a laugh, its a shame you have a boss who is a complete humourless [ed: naughty]!

At one of the nicks I worked at, there was a senior officer who was a right asre. His phone was re-wired so 1 dialed 9 etc. I'm sure you get my drift. It caused us hours of amusements! Mwahaha

Wotcha matey! We had loads of snow. Great fun!!
The Hampshire Police 'sledge' is just a good as any other sort of sledge. They career out of control on snow and ice, at a great rate of knots, not easy to control, cant be steered and tend to hurt the person in control of them.
The Hampshire Police 'sledge is available from all good Nissan dealers and is called 'Navara'.

I think they were right to be "Told Off" in the sense of the article.

The implication is that this was not a formal disciplinary issue (which would have been very wrong), but some form of response was no doubt requied to counter possible claims of the fact thay they were pratting about on duty. The senior officer could not "do nothing" in the eyes of the press/public so I think thats fine.

Im allso happy that the media and public comment response if very much supportive, maybe becuase they got "ticked off " and not let off or formally disciplined.

LOL you didn't have a Polac did you...? we got a 110 to use, was a barrell of laughs, it cut through snow drifts like a hot knife through butter.

The only problem was we had to give it back.
