Snow
TDi90:
YES I LOVE SNOW IN HAMPSHIRE!!
J.D.:
Btween 6 and 12" in Berkshire, main roads are reasonable, but side roads are lethal with up to 6" of compacted snow. Stayed at a friend's house last night in Bracknell and had to drive up the hill with the lockers in and then winch a few people up behind me just to get out.
Currently the Landy is the only vehicle which can get out of the drive (down a single track road and then a byway). Haven't had anyone else leave the road on the lane and make contact with the side of the house as happened late last week.
Ended up recovering a lot of vehicles yesterday purely to enable me to get to where I wanted to go. So far the Land Rover hasn't missed a beat and its recovered everything from a tanker to the local milkfloat.
wormster:
A fair covering on Mendip, dug the zook out today and hit town for supplies, first time I've been out for 3 days!!!
carbore:
Snow in Camborne Cornwall! 2 inches in half an hour in Turo.
The lane I live down was totally iced over last night as its basically a stream, so I left the Golf at the top and wallked back (in suit as had come from 3 days in London)
Out in the Freelander this morning, no problems, glad I kept it with the best AT tyres I could find as its 90% road miles but the 10% off road I do really matters. Sill diddnt try the lane (sheet ice is sheet ice!) so went up the overgrown green lane thats an old shortcut to my house, its so rocky you get good grip.
Took the wife out site seeing and recovered (with police in attendance) an estate car that had gone off the road into a road sign (I put my tow strop in the car before I left). Went to the egg farm during a blizzard and the woman on the till was amazed to see anyone!
All in all an exciting morning.
