diesel consumption 300tdi/door handles
thediscodude:
Hi all,
I have an M reg 300tdi disco on 180,000 miles, sound as a pound running and driving wise but the fuel consumption varies every time I put fuel in, I fill up 20 quid and it will do 126 miles then a few days later I put 20 quid in drive it exactly the same and it will do 80 - 100,was pulling 33 mpg until I serviced it (oil and filters), injector pipes were leaking so I've changed them and have been studying it and cant see any more leakages, just replaced clutch, wondered where or if I'm going wrong, or just crying like a girl , also I know its probably an easy fix but id prefer to hear from past experience.
My door handles are an absolute nightmare, you have to keep yanking them constantly for like 5 minutes to get them to open maybe be as easy as stripping and wd40 but thought id ask first cheers.

blimey well done im putting £20 in mine and getting around 65 miles mind u the silly great muds, roofrack and about 16ton of armour weighing it down could be a factor lol
not sure about ya door handles could be a shot spring or even the actuator thingy bit? im sure plenty of the guys will be along to help with more info
lambert:
much of the mpg will vary on how much "£20" actually is in terms of actual volume, this could easily get you most of your difference as can traffic on the same run, even a head wind can have a noticable affect.
best bet is to fill it to the top do 100 miles of varied driving then fill back to the top and note the number of liters/ gallons and work it out from that.
door handles have adjustable rods linking the pull to the catch.get behind the door card and with the window up you can tweek them to suit.
stretchy:
quick tip for the door handles.. get them of and turn them over , on the back you will see a white push rod that pushes a flap of metle to work the mechanisim. you will fined that almost all of the travel is wasted becase the push rod does not hit the flap right away. you can put a pen top or the like over the end of the white push rod to extend it a bit or bend the flap back a bit to shorten the distance. regrease and refit .. good as new ;)
