Back door check strap

Hey guys,

Just came across this post and thought I would provide some information in relation to it.

The 'bolt' you are referring to on the back of the Disco has not been sheared off, it probably is (as much as can be determined from your description) exactly how it is supposed to be. The 'check strap' is secured onto this bolt via a circlip.

Of course, the solutions suggested will fix the problem and secure the 'strap' but a much simpler solution is to purchase a new circlip and washer (about $2 in total).

Aha!

I haven't fixed it yet as there didn't seem to be enough thickness to drill for a split pin, that does make sense though and I know the type of circlip you mean. I'll see what I can dig up - I've got boxes of assorted washers and whatnot along with a good agricultural vehicle spares place locally who can supply most common bolts and similar.

i think its ment to be a E clip mine flew off and smashed the rear light unit with the spair tyre on the disco 2 still not fixed it yet well got a new light but not got a clip yet

I've ordered a jumbo box of assorted circlips now, I'd guess a 9.5mm one will fit as the washer is an M10.

Yeah, looking at that bolt last night I thought you would need to be extremely accurate to drill a hole through it and the size would need to be just right to ensure the structural integrity of the bolt wasn't compromised.

That box of assorted bits and pieces would be fantastic to have! Yeah, the 9.5mm should be right. The actual part number is BYV100000. Whilst you can buy it from a number of different online places, I've tried searching on the exact width of it with no luck.

Yeah, the Disco 2 might have a different securing method, but it is definitely a circlip for the Disco 1. But having said that, anything of that type of clip will do the trick. There actually shouldn't be too much upward pressure on the clip if the assy is secured properly. The vast majority of the pressure should be horizontal not vertical.
