Back door check strap

(1/3) > >>

Disco Matt:
Bit of an odd one this! On the back door of a Disco there's a check strap to prevent it opening too far. However, the top of the bolt (or whatever it is) that attaches the body end of the strap has sheared off on mine. Has anyone had the same problem, and how did you fix it?

Is it a simple bolt that will unscrew with some force and be replaceable, or do I need to do something cunning like drilling and tapping the remaining stump for a smaller bolt to stop the check strap coming off?

Pretty much what i did with mine Disco Matt - just drilled through the stump and used a split pin through it. Works fine for me.

Spot on - mine too, only I used an R clip.

Disco Matt:
I hadn't thought of using a split pin/R clip - thanks for that! Much less aggro than trying to find and drill the centre from above. There should just about be enough thickness if I leave the original washer out.

+1 on split pin!!
