1987 Range Rover 3.5v8efi.. water profing
squaddie_fox:
basically, a piece of flat steel, bent at the bottom and attached to the block in front of the dizzy with maybe a bit that goes over to cover the top.
with the alternator get some flat plate, bend it around the alternator, enclose the front and rear so no water can splash it and attach it possibly onto the top of the tensioner or similar.
haven't got any pics as i haven't done it to mine yet, but will be doing it when i get round to doing the rest of my list of things to do.

Any way guys back to the point lol what can i do make it more resistant to water

Water proofing?
All mine has had was raised breathers, ECU relocated to where the air con evaporator matrix used to be and plenty of WD40 sprayed around the HT leads when fitted. Oh and importantly no carpets. It then spent a while yesterday sat in a large puddle with a tide line inside half way up the transmission tunnel while the winch was rigged up. This is the point you realise you have a hole in a welly . The engine did stall a couple of times due to a non water related fault (its had an intermittent idle for a long while) and restarted again perfectly every time [-o<. How on earth it managed this without even a misfire I do not know, but I really should start trailering to events.
IMHO diesels aren't much better for deep wading that petrols, they still have alternators, radiators, trim, lights and everything else on the vehicle that don't like deep water. Usually petrols are a good excuse not to devalue your vehicle while everyone else does to theirs.
ben-dent:
i water proofed my V8s with silicone sealant bead round the rim of the dizzy cap, and round the rim of each peg of the dizzy cap and coil, than use castrol chain grease, then before any outing spray WD over the leads, although mine are carb's not EFi
