Power vs Torque

(1/1)

thermidorthelobster:
For ages I've been trying to work out what Power is and what Torque is.  To my mind, they were always going to be two aspects of the same thing, but nobody could quite explain how...

Now all is clear!

Worth a read.  Everything makes perfect sense now, and it's so simple...

Range Rover Blues:
Although not strictly accurate.  Horespower is most commonly the term used to describe what we call 'indicated power' whereas Brake Horsepower is used for, well, brake power really.  Confused? well don't worry, I have a degree in this s**t and I still have to stop and think sometimes.

robbie:
It is easy to remember really.....

You need a specific POWER (effort) to tighten a nut/bolt to a specific TORQUE (twist/turn) on your cylinder head.....

I guess gone are those days when you just 'whap it up until it is tight' then!! You'll be reading those Haynes books more closely now  :D
