les baty:
hi all, i have a 300tdi disco and have been told that the front and rear diffs are the same, is this right???? could i put a front diff in the rear axle??? many thanks

Henry Webster:
That is sort of correct, although you may find that the rear one has a different flange.  3 rather than 4 bolt.  They can be interchanged with the correct spacer.

Front diff will have a 4 bolt flange which means you can change the rear prop to a 200 one and do away with the rubber donut.

And a 200tdi rear prop...

 ;)

weeone:
200's tend to be coarse splines, 300's fine splines.... but as others have said, the 300 disco rear diff is unique in having the rubber donut & three bolts.

If you switch to a 4-bolt flange (it's a kit from the major parts suppliers), you can use a 200tdi (or some Range Rover) rear propshaft :)
