I speak from experience when I say that huskys and similar breeds are very one person dogs. IE: they will take to one person and that is it, no matter how many people live in the house. So be warned, it may take to your girlfriend or it may take to you and become "your" dog, not both of yours if you get what I mean.

Have you considered the cost of feeding a Rottie?? big as a horse and could eat one in 1 sitting :)the insurance will be sky high on a pooch like that -as for Jacks yappie little sods with the heart of a lion tie the lead to your rotory washing line and thats the walk taken care of, seriously go for a Border collie super intelligent easy to train ,

As somoeone who rescues dogs, PLEASE do NOT ever buy a dog as a present for someone!
Talk to her about it, decide betweeen you who will care for it (and remember a dog can easily live for 15 years or more so what are the two of you going to be doing for the next 15 years?), who will pay the bills, walk it etc.
Also, please don't get a dog if both of you work: would you like to be locked up for hours on end?

In Total Agreement.
My wife use to run a large rescue centre for over 10 yrs. and you cant help but get involved.
We have 2 dogs (had up to 10 at the same time) and a cat, but wouldnt have either if she was not at home all day to care for them.
