chasing wires..
« on: August 25, 2009, 09:45:11 »
Can anyone tell me what wires go between the fuel tank sender unit and the dashboard gauge? as in what colours am I looking for and what route they take through the car?

car is a 1987 rrc 4door, originally a vmTD, now running a 200TDI, it's the 110mph speedo with rev counter dashboard if that makes a difference.. most of the interior is removed and I can see a wiring loom going up each windscreen pillar but I can't see any wires haning around near the tank.. i'm guessing there should be at least one for the level sender and one for the low fuel warning light.. do they have earth wires running back as well?  :-k

I'd expect the wires to be part of the loom that goes to the back light, so they would leave the car via the inner wing and run under the rear crossmemeber to the tank, also the tailgate/number plate lamps will be wired in with them.

if it's anything like a disco, the wires to the fuel sender plug in to the tail lamp loom on the left hand side of the car, as Andy said.

The low fuel warning is a function of the dashboard, not the sender BTW and check the multiplug at the end of the dashbaord, mine were rotten.
