Manicminer:
Could it be to encourage lorries and buses to drive down the middle and have their wheels go over the bumps and not just straddling them and carry on at the same speed?

bravo669:
lol, i can do that in my fiat doblo van down that road!

automania:
this type of thing reminds of the green cycle boxes at lights, dont know if there everywhere but here in manchester theres about an 8 foot section across the width of the road for bikes, to wait at the lights! funnily enough ive never seen a group of about 20 bikes waiting in these boxes! what a fantastic waste of paint and time

I've herd the cycle lane thing at traffic lights counts towards meeting "cycle lane" targets, same thing for the small stripes down the side of the road thats usally filled with cars that park half on the pavement.  Its a cheep way of adding cycle lanes that your ment to provide when redoing a junction.  As a cycalist though they aren't very useful in some cases probubly reduice safety.

I've herd of the idea of single lane roads with wide flat curb runoffs for vehicles to pass is ment to slow things down is ment to work well, and the above is blatently a cheep imitation as it doesn't require the tarmac changing.  Don't think its as safe though as I can imagine cars swerving around the speed humps at the past minute, many of which probubly won't check their left mirror when crossing the white line.  If they want to make people drive in the middle surely making the speed bump "pillow" in the middle would be the thing to do as 1 car could go fast and more dense traffic would have to slow to pass over the bumps.
