Its most likely a combination of wear on all the pedal components,so either get a good replacement,or take it out and see what you can do to stop it moving.Depends on time and whether you need the motor on the road!

I'm not expert on the Defender pedal box but it's common to have a 2 pplastic bushes supporting the pedals ( I think my RRC is like that) and if so the bushes are the wear part, a second hand pedal or 2 new bushes should sort it out.

looks like its a pig of an awkward job, release the split pin from the servo arm, then above that is the pivotpin but its locked with a rollpin which  needs drifting out and I can't see how to get at the pin unless I take the servo off

I hate these stupid little boxes called computers,i like real toys like LANDROVERS. Purhaps if they made keyboards bigger my big fingers wouldnt keep hitting 3 keys at once.

I hear you there mate.  Thi s layout of keyboard was deliberately designed to slow typists down!

Seeing I had a good pedal box/bracket from a 110 I am breaking I decided my wobbly pedal had to go today. Releasing the pedal to brake master was  simple enough with easy access. As said above the pivot pin at the top which the pedal hinged on is a bit of a pig to knock out the retaining pin as there is no access. (I have seen some do it situ by drifting the pivot and shearing the retain peg but doesn't look healthy for bulkhead!).
So the pedal box has to come out for access. I managed to unbolt the master/vacuum servo from the brake pedal box/bracket and because there is enough play in the pipe work I was able to get away without disturbing the hydraulics which is a bonus. With a bit of fiddling the pedal and its box can be worked up and out past the wiring loom and servo.  The box and servo is different to the one on the old 110 compared to my 300tdi so I just swapped the pedal itself, the pivot pin and the bronze like bushes which where the same. The wear on mine was restricted to both the pedal and the pair of bushes, the pivot peg seems barely worn.
Any how, bit of a clean up and all replaced and back together with fresh water sealant. Pedal feels really good now without is moving 1/2inch side to side so was well worth the barely 2 hours spent. I never feared the pedal would fail totally but it one of those things that niggles.
