You haven't said if you checked bulbs, fuses and brake light switch?

CHECK SWITCH ON MASTER CYLINDER
V8MoneyPit:
Just to expand on the above....
Pull the 2 wires off the switch which is on the back of the master cylinder, near the bulkhead, and short them together. Then see if the brakes lights work. If they do, the switch is faulty or wrongly adjusted. If they don't it will be the fuse or a wiring issue. Unlikely to be bulbs unless they have both blown at the same time which would be a huge coincidence (but not unheard of!).
I can't remember, but you might need the ignition on while you do the check.
clbarclay:
A typical stop/tail lamp bulb has 2 seperate fillements in it and its quite possible for just one of these to have blown.
In my experiance the majority of light problems on cars are either blown bulbs or poor contacts between the buld and holder. My first move would be to take the lens of and inspect the bulb. Even if both brake lights are not working I would still check the bulbs first. Start with the easy things to check.
