Clutch/Gearbox/Transferbox issues

(1/2) > >>

Dave123:
Hey there chaps, I'm having a spot of trouble with trevors driveline

When the engine is not running you can select all gears and there is a clutch pedal but when you start the engine there are no gears but still a clutch pedal. However when you put it into neutral on the transfer box all gears are selectable with the engine still running and obviously no drive. As soon as you put the transfer box into neutral while in gear and clutch down there is a loud bang and the enigine stalls.

Sorry about being unable to be very discriptive but typing is very tricky on an iPhone

Thanks all

Dave

bogie:
disconnect both props from the transfer box and see if it still does it. If it still does your box is stuffed im afraid.

Lucy1978:
simpler check, is to remove the top cover on the transfer box, (accessible from the hatch between the seats) and have a look at the nut on the end of the mainshaft, there should be a tab washer locking it in place, but if this is broken or missing the nut can unwind it self and jam against the nose of the rear cover to the gearbox. When it does this the transmission effectively winds itself up till you cant engauge or disengauge gears and the engine will stall.

Dave123:
cheers chaps and sorry for the late reply but the Internet has been playing up. I shall try both of these this evening

Another theory I have been told is with the bad weather recently, the clutch plate could be seized to the fly wheel causing it to have the clutch pemanently engaged like it feels to have done is this atall common? Although I can't see this happening overnight

Once again thank you

This truck has been giving me grief since the day I got it and I'm at the end of my tether with it but I suppose thais land rovers for you

Dave123:
okay, just tried both. The nut is still in with the tab washer and it still does it with all the wheels jacked up instead of removing the props, what's next?
