You shoudn't need to remove the prop. It will be fairly obvious if there is a badly knackered UJ on there, as the flang for the propshaft will move up and down along the 'arms' of the UJ spider if the needle rollers are FUBAR'ed.

did have a feel when checking the rear diff didnt seem to be any play.............................. but that dont mean its not seized thou does it hmmmmmm just thought of that

Its not something silly like mud and crap between the brake disc and the dust guard on the hub is it? If you want to give me a call, Im still at the workshop so the phone is still on and I can try and help mate.

many thanx for the offer but its the weekend and i wudnt bother anyone over a weekend
ill drop off the rear axle and have a look see
dont think its mud or crud again wheel moves freely so that wud suggest to me its all ok?

Range Rover Blues:
Sounds a bit like mine when it got water intot the hub, the wheel bearings rusted even though there was no play it sounded awful, especially on bends.
