Headlights not working (and wiper problems!)

(1/2) > >>

LiftedDisco:
Hi all

Firstly, I am posting this before having had a rootle around myself, so if the solution is stupidly simple, I apologise unreservedly...

All on a '96 300Tdi Disco...

Last night I had perfect headlights... then stopped for an hour, following which my dipped beam lights had gone...

Here's the full works:

All tail-lights and dash work OK

'Dim-dip' lights come on when switch turned to first position

Turn switch to 2nd position, off-side 'dim-dip' light goes out, leaving nearside as only illumination!

Main beam or flash - both headlights work OK.

I have seen elsewhere that there is a dip relay somewhere under the dash - is this likely to be the culprit and does anyone know where it is?

Any alternative thoughts / suggestions / solutions?

ALSO - and possibly connected somehow...

The wipers seemed to stay on, irrespective of where the switch was - off, intermittent (but speeding up if I went to the 'fast' setting.

However, having turned the wipers 'off' they would periodically stop and self park - a single use of the swipe (or flicking to intermittent and then off) would set them off on another spell of continuous 'on'

?

 :-k

Are the lights on the same stalk as the wipers??

Cos it sounds to me more like the stalk rather than a relay (providing they are both on the same stalk)

LiftedDisco:
No - opposite sides of the steering column...

Having parked up, the wipers appeared to be fine whilst I was fighting with lack of lights!

Thanks - any more thoughts?

Dr Neil:
One of the first things i would check are the earths to the lights/wipers.Have you been through a lot of water recently?

Check that you are getting 12volts to the bulbs and work from there.

A bit vague, sorry

Neil....

UPDATE...

I have it on good authority that this will be down to the 'dim-dip' relay... but was told this may be "in the dash or behind the kick plate"

Does anyone know where this little beastie might lurk?

Like I say, Discovery 300, '96

Many thanks
