Sorted my split charging this weekend

(1/3) > >>

davidlandy:
Got bored this weekend so decided to rewire my batteries and sort out my split charging.

I moved everything including the winch to the main battery, with the auxillary battery there to support it via the relay.

looks quite busy in the battery box now!!

landyman Ash:
I have never found a split charger powerful enough for competition.  Have you used the charger in anger

I always find the battery flattens  :(   and Im running yellow and red optimas.

I have run them in parrallel for six months now with zero problems and in the only instant that I flatten them both.  Left it ten mins and the V8 roared back into like

Is this the best method of auxillary power supply then?

landyman Ash:
I found it was and I know alot of the guys doing the nutty stuff run the same setup.  The split chargers cant cope with the power needed to transfer the current over the the aux.  I run ALL the mods off the aux (yellow top) which is winches, lights etc etc and then the truck runs off the red.  Both are in parrallel so in a way you could say thats irrelevant BUT having spoken to a battery enginneer he said it will make the differnce and as long as you run a deep cycle and a starter you'll get the best set up.

Its such a good set up I put a new loom in and somehow (dont ask....) managed to leave the alternator out      .  Anyway, it ran for three play days at Whaddon and Brickhill with out the alternator and I even used the inch once!!!!  Only then did it go flat!!!!

davidlandy:
I dont do comps so the winch dont get the heavy duty long periods use that you boys put them thru.

I used to have my winch running off of the auxillary battery but it seemed to lack power - it now is thru the main and I can link the two so that I have two batts powering it - should be much better.

Not sure that this is the best method of wiring but if it works then Im happy!
