TD4 Black Smoke

(1/2) > >>

J.D.:
My Dad has just bought a second hand '03 plate TD4 Freelander. Its been fine for the first couple of weeks, but now it has started giving out clouds of black smoke (almost like soot) under acceleration and fast idle when stationary. All the air ways are fine, and it still does it with the EGR pipe removed. I am fairly certain it is over fuelling but why would it suddenly start doing it?

Rockin Robin:
You've checked the obvious - turbo hoses - I suppose?

barmiebrumie:
Paul (mudknight) had the same with his & it was the ''rocker filter'' sorry not sure of the proper name but its a filter of some sorts that's inside the rocker cover & 'rocks' from one side to another but when they get blocked they jam & this is what happens

Hope that helps

John

J.D.:
Yeah, all the turbo hoses are fine. Thanks for the rocker tip though, I will investigate that. Its not really down on power but can can notice it hesitate slightly when you put your foot down and then there are clouds of black smoke out the back.

G30RGE:
"Breather Filter"
Clogs up big time and is now recommeded to be replaced every service
