how big are freelanders

(1/3) > >>

whits:
hi went on holiday a few weeks ago to norfork and found out that the wife's focus is not big enough anymore
so we are looking for another car she wants a freelander i want another disco,
to be her everyday driver,  family car and holiday car aswell as we cant afford to go abroad anymore,
at the moment we have a 2001 focus 5 door hatch, don't know if the freelander will be much bigger inside,
other option is a roof box but don't really want one,

V8MoneyPit:
TBH, I don't think it will be much different. The Freelander is not a 'big' car.

Hello,

I agree they are not that big inside. They do have some advantages over hatch backs in that the load area is tall so you can get tall things in like furniture, and the lack of a boot lip is useful. However some things dont fit in the freelander that fit in our Mk4 Golf easily. I use mine to lug loads of junk around and it does ok, but not with four seats up and since having a family we are noticing the small boot area. I have a huge roof rack but that also makes it thirsty on the motorway.

The disco will be much bigger, but if money is tight the increase in fuel costs every day could end up making it cheaper to run a focus and go abroad with the savings.

Roof box is a good idea provided you only fit it when you need it. Whilst 4x4 purchase prices are attractive right now, thats because they are more expensive to run. If you need 4x4 you have to put up with it, but its hard to make a case for them from any other perspective (other than if you just want one)

DoubleTop:
I've gone from a Disco to a Freelander and have done trips to my parents for weekends in both.  In terms of comfort, I preferred the Freelander drive.  The seats give as much leg room front and rear, imo, as a Disco, the difference is in the depth of the boot space.  going from a hatch to a Freelander will give more space, but it is a different space.  Depending on budget and needs, maybe a estate car of some sort rather than going straight into the LR options.

All I can find on tinernet is luggage capacity in Freelander = 755 litres seats up, 1670l seats down the Focus 385litres.

DT.

Pity you so far away, you could have a look at the wifes Freelander as she is ready to sell it & ''downsize'' to a hatch, she has had a couple of Focus's in the past & I would say the Freelander has more leg room, more comfort & more luggage space than the Focus ever had.

Hope that helps
