Dust Club
CaptainColourful:
Hi Dazzawhipple
I had a holiday in the Northern Territory a while ago.
I know exactly what you mean about those ridges. I had a rental X-trail, not a real 4by but not too bad.
I was tootling along slowly down a dust track and having my liver shaken out when a bloke in a toyota flatbed flew past me. I reckoned he knew summat I didn't so I booted it a bit and hey presto the ride was smooth at 70-80 kph.
I couldn't believe what a difference it made, and the car didn't seem to mind at all.
The alternate route was an extra 40 odd miles, but I was seriously considering taking it until the toyota showed me the way to smooth things out.

re dirt roads in aus. at 80km/h you are skipping along the top of the ruts therefore less bouncing. a lot less wear and tear on the car.

The car was a rental so I wasn't too concerned if it fell apart a few weeks after we had handed it back.
My main concern was that my liver/spleen/kidneys/eyes/teeth would fall out all over the floor
With the extra speed it did skip over the surface quite nicely, in fact a little sideways action was quite enjoyable on some of the long bends..... although that was a bit risky considering help was so far away if I had an accicent.
We once pulled over by the side of the road to watch a pack of dingos as they walked up the road towards us.... we were enthralled. When I looked in my door mirror to watch them as they passed by us, I noticed that a plod had parked up right behind us ready to give us grief if I had even thought of getting out of the car to stroke them. As if !!
I still don't know where he came from, he must've been hiding in a bush somewhere I reckon... 100's of miles and no sign of a plod, then stop for 10 mins and one crept up on us....... just like being at home !

now your just making me home sick... will have to check this place out in spain.
