A couple of questions..

Monkeymantulp:
Hi there, now we have half decent weather the work can start  :D

I need a couple of things clarifying though if you would please...  [-o<

My 2.5td ( ) oil cap breather hose is lose in the engine bay and hangs under the vehicle, is this suppose to be attached to the air box hole which has been blanked up?
Also the exhaust from this pipe is very smokey, is that right? In addition the cap is leaking, so a replacement seal/unit is due.

Second thing, if i put bench seats in the back, do i need to declare this to insurance and relevant authorities? Also, what is the procedure for telling them about an engine change and a respray?

Cheers
Nick

nellyscossy:
i can help with a couple of things
if you change the engine and colour you send off your log book with the new engine number and colour on and dvla will update their records simple as that

the bench seat depends on your insurance co.  my insurance company wouldnt insure me if mine had no seats or windows in the back..because it was classed as a commercial van.....so i fitted some glass and put a couple of bench seats in.......so long as the seats dont face forward they dont come under any mot rules etc

and the breather pipe should go to the air box not just hang

hope this helps

Monkeymantulp:
Cheers for the speedy reply, I hoped it would be that easy for once  :)

Is there any reason why it would have been blanked and left to hang?

Range Rover Blues:
Someone has left the breather pipe hanging down because the oily smoke will clog up the air filter or turbo depending on where it normaly connects to the engine.

Some breathing is perfectly normal and will increase as the engine wears out.

BigA:
i used to have a 2.5 90, and the oil breather was not connected on that. When i re connected it i found the reason was due to the increase in black smoke due to oil being sent through with the air. If i remember correctly it connects after the air filter. I therefore disconnected and re-blanked the connector on the air hose (if that makes sense).

i think you can get oil catcher devices to connect the breather pipe too ??
