Is the speedo on a Disco 300 electronic or cable driven???

my mums 300TDi speedo keeps playing up, it works one minute and the next it dont,

and it will not work for a few days after it stops, and all of a sudden start working before i get the chance to look at it, it is a PITA

it doesnt stop mid driving only when first starting up and or when stationary at traffic lights or Junction

DoubleTop:

The speedo doesnt come fronm the alternator. Its electrical but driven fron a transducer on the gearbox. Check the connections on it and you could also take it off and check the mecanics of it.

Its not uncommon for them to pack up.

Its in the same place as the traditional mechanical driven speedo cable polugs in - behind the handbrake drum at about 10 o'clock as you look at it fom the back of the truck.  Just in case you were wondering.........

Range Rover Blues:
The signal is a pulse because it's made using a reed switch, so you can check it with a multi-meter at the back of the speedo, or at the cruise control ECU because it shares the same speed info, possibly also with the EGR system but I'm not sure about the last one.
