Your bricks may be more undiform than the others I've seen used, or your not pushing hard enough  Mind you I don't fully trust even axle stands.

I chose to make a winch mount and use a standard bumper instead of a full weight winch bumper. As I found out one pay and play I know have a better arouach angle than a firends 90  pitty about the departure angle

The basic structure mid build

The tray in place with winch

Fitted with only one section of grill cut out for access the free spool.

I did seen another RR winch mount where the fairlead height was right in the middle of the bumper and a removable cover was made in the bumper so when not in use the winch was complete hidden from prying eyes.

This video shows a friends winch bumper where he starter of with a defender bumper for the winch and made it fit. Its show close up at 1m 53s.

Another option is to start with a length of large box section steel, cut it too shape (including tapering the ends etc), make a winch tray and mounting brakets coming off the back of it.

i have a chrysler 3 speed auto and it is broken! will the transfer box off of it fit on a zf 4 speed?

Cheers,
Nick

clbarclay:
I'm not sure what transphere box was used with the 3 speed autos, though the LT230 used with the later 4 speeds is readily availible. If you haven't already got the 4 speed, then you could probably aquire one complete with LT230 or even a Borg Warner. I'm pretty sure you have to remove the tansphere box as well when removing the gear box.

If you doo change the transphere box then another thing to conside is the handbrake, on post 1985 models the leaver is higher up and cable operated. IIRC yours opeates via solid links, which may fit onto a later trnaspherbox
