my rrc rag top
« on: April 12, 2009, 17:34:47 »
this is my new rrc what do you think, so far i haven't done a lot to it just a few little things like :

taken everything out of the back painted and pacing up the holes, rear bumper, removed front bumper haven't made a new one yet, tinted lights,  washer bottle has been replaced as i don't want to run out of water, bigger battery hope to be putting in the boot, that's about it for now.

what do you think?

Cheers,
Nick

will get some pictures up when i got it all on.

spent today getting the truck up in the air and all of the springs and shocks out. has been a pain as  i need to take all of the old stuff out so i can put it on the other truck when i take the 2" lift stuff out of it.

jacked up the front

front springs and shocks out

truck all jacked up front and rear shocks and springs out

what i would like my truck to look like, but the wheels let it down

now that's better  :D

now i need some dislocation cones, braded hoses and some spring retainers. will i need some extended bump stops as i have no bump stops on the rear and standard ones on the front.

could i put some 2" drop turrets and some 2" drop rear shock mounts on to give extra drop or are they only used for stock height springs and +2" shocks?

Cheers,
Nick

looking good always good to see posts in progress..

yeah you can fit lowered mounts which would increas your axle movemnts as long as you have removed anti-roll bars etc... :)

that was the first think that went on mine.

I echo that, for the sake of £20 (down machine mart or CAF), they may well save your life, rather than relying on some bricks. Its all very well having a decent truck, but no point having one if you can't use your legs because it landed on them, or worse.

I agree those tyres are most defiantly diff busters.

Tyres don't bust diffs, right feet do

Agreed on the axle stands, not only are bricks too brittle, but those stacks are also too narrow at the base and not as stable.

those tyres will probably eat diffs so i think i'm going to weld up my mashed one and put that in and keep my good diff for when im not in 2foot of mud.

i way prefer those bricks to axle stands i couldn't even wobble that truck on those bricks!

has any one made there own front bumper on there rrc as im looking for some insparation for mine.

Nick

Your bricks may be more undiform than the others I've seen used, or your not pushing hard enough  Mind you I don't fully trust even axle stands.

I chose to make a winch mount and use a standard bumper instead of a full weight winch bumper. As I found out one pay and play I know have a better arouach angle than a firends 90  pitty about the departure angle

The basic structure mid build

The tray in place with winch

Fitted with only one section of grill cut out for access the free spool.

I did seen another RR winch mount where the fairlead height was right in the middle of the bumper and a removable cover was made in the bumper so when not in use the winch was complete hidden from prying eyes.

This video shows a friends winch bumper where he starter of with a defender bumper for the winch and made it fit. Its show close up at 1m 53s.

Another option is to start with a length of large box section steel, cut it too shape (including tapering the ends etc), make a winch tray and mounting brakets coming off the back of it.

I'm not sure what transphere box was used with the 3 speed autos, though the LT230 used with the later 4 speeds is readily availible. If you haven't already got the 4 speed, then you could probably aquire one complete with LT230 or even a Borg Warner. I'm pretty sure you have to remove the tansphere box as well when removing the gear box.

If you doo change the transphere box then another thing to conside is the handbrake, on post 1985 models the leaver is higher up and cable operated. IIRC yours opeates via solid links, which may fit onto a later trnaspherbox
