P38 diesel chain or belt &??
« on: April 10, 2009, 15:47:02 »
Simple questions :-. is the timing by chain or belt ie is it a service item and if so a big or easy job? Also how much to chip the engine oh and last but not least is cruise control vacum type or electronic?
Still not sure whether to go RR or Disco TD5.....maybe even back to the old 300tdi :-k

the engine is timing chain, the cruise controll is electronic,i think, not 100% sure,as for chipping it,therte loads of different places can chip them for around £400,maybe cheaper :D

Thanks Jim timing issues was going to be a breaker if a belt in deciding whether to change vehicles! Always prefered RR but worried about German engine  They think they are so efficient but could have been daft enough to use a belt so they could make more euros off us poor Brits :cheesy:

The V8 cruise I think is the old system but did not know if the Diesel had gone the same way as the TD5 being electronic on cruise.....less to go wrong

Re chipping will ask Peter Bell at Bell Auto he did my TD5 or Gary at TD5 Alive and see what they do unless anyone has done a plug in DIY job :-k
