Is there such thing as private motorcycle tuition anymore? i can't seem to find anyone.. they are all these so called motor cycle centres that charge through the nose and want you to do a ridiculous ammount of hours.

So does anybody know of (is themselves) any motorcycle instructors in the Bedfordshire area?

Any help would be blooming great

Gordo:
Yes, I'm a motorcyclist (see .sig for details!).

What sort of tuition are you after? Learning to ride is quite a complex process, and the reason you get schools rather than private instructors is because you need an off-road [1] training area to learn machine control.

Before you can ride on the road *at all* you have to do your CBT: Compulsory Basic Training.

Then you can ride a low-powered bike on L plates for three years. If you don't pass your test within that two years you need to do another CBT test.

There are two different tests: A1 and A. Although the actual test is the same, your qualification is different.

If you do you do the test on a small bike (e.g. a 125) then you are restricted for two years to bikes of 33bhp or less. If you do it on a big bike (e.g. a 600) then you have a "Direct Access" pass and can ride anything straight away. You need to be 21 to do Direct Access.

If you've got any questions then feel free to drop me a line.

HTH :)

[1] As in not on the highway (although dirt riding is a lot of fun)

is it three years? in which case my CBT should still be valid then? i got it when i was 16, i'm 18 now lets hope! will save me an extra 90 quid!

Basically i am a competent rider, have been riding since i was 12 or so. I also had a suzuki TS50 on the road for a year, so I am used to riding on the road. It is just a case for me of getting an instructor to help me brush up on suicide checks and any bad habbits that i have and to go through the maneuvers.

I'm just having trouble finding an instructor.  :undecided:

karlo:
CBT lasts for 2 years.

Gordo:
Oops! Had a bit of a brain-fart there. It is two years.

...where on earth did three come from
