Sand blasting question

(1/2) > >>

brixworth-alan:
Spring's here and I'm back working on the beast- got a good deal on a replacement 2a front panel- 30 quid and it came with a free rad, fan and horns (and a dead mouse). Now I come to stripping back the paint from the steel (and rust from the chassis) and I wonder if it's worth investing in sand blasting kit- has anyone got any recommendations on what works?

cheers Alan

propes:
Personally i would'nt bother buying one as the good ones are expensive, need a lot of free air delivery and cfm on a compressor and make a lot of mess! A real pain to do, if your only doing a front panel either strip it with nitromors and orbital sander or send it to a blasting company and let them sort it. Be a damn sight cheaper and less hassle.Machine Mart do blasting kits but you'll need a good compressor.

brixworth-alan:
Cheers- I suspect I'll need something for the chassis though- a rust converting primer might be OK but i worry that it'll become brittle and crack off.

propes:
I hate to say it but electric drill with wire wheel brushes, its a real pain in the ass but it does the job. Get all the loose rust away then use the kure rust type stuff, red oxide and waxoyle inside and out....now that really is a horrible evil swine of a job. Good luck!!!

brixworth-alan:
Thanks! I've been wire brushing elsewhere and I guess theres no easy option.
