what CB Radio ?
Disco Matt:
Mag mounts can be ok, it's just a case of getting a good one. I ran a 7in mount with a springer aerial for ages and never had any problems with trees. When I came to remove the mount however it required fingers of steel to overcome the magnet!
I'll put a vote in for the Midland 98 Plus - I know a few people who use them, they're simple, solid radios for not a lot of outlay. Mine hasn't given any hassle in the two years or so since I fitted it. One tip for them, if you don't use the channel change buttons on the mic then it's relatively simple to remove the switches. Mine used to keep getting knocked against things and randomly changing channel.
Mud-muncher1:
I'd stay away from the Midland 98+, i've only had mine for about 6 months and its already packed up

congrats  another convert.
As for thread, quality mag mounts are fine and you can get some big fancy beasts but useless on real landrovers *cough* I mean useless on series and defenders.
Devon-Rover:
Had a midland 98+ for at least three years now and it has been in the IIA which isn't the most hospitable of places for complex electronics, and it has performed faultlessly, The noisekiller does a good job and it gives a clear sound that you can hear and understand.
The disco courtesy of it's Previous owner left me another midland this time a 78 multi, Again it is clear and easy to use and does a good job.
Two mates down in Cornwall have midland rigs in their land rovers and can't fault them for the performance and quality. One did buy a moonrake minor and he regrets buying it. The squelch is rubbish and the speaker is rubbish you can't hear what the incoming speech is.
IMHO you get what you pay for buy a cheapy and get cheap quality, Spend a bit more and enjoy being able to talk to all and hear them as well.
