Range Rover Blues:
Ah, 3.5 flapper system, not my strong point.  Check there is some fuel, then get hold of a haynes manual for the RRC, the suppliment has everything you can check yourself on the EFi system.

Good luck ;)

BobtailBogey:
Over-runvalve has already been by-passed before so thats all done

right it started tonight and ran for about 5 sec's
then ran again for a few sec's thenagain but now nothing.

all this was after i replaced the plugs and leads with the ones out of thebogey.

it was as though it was chocking itself either fuel or air so gonna rip the inlet off tomorrow and check the injectors.

Does it matter how the fuel pump is powered as long as its pumping? or does it also control how much fuel?

Range Rover Blues:
Fuel pump should prime, then runs all the time whilst the engine is running.  The pressure regulator on the fule rail keeps the fuel at a constant pressure, it allows the return fuel to the tank out at a preset pressure so as long as there's sufficient fuel being delivered then the regulator is the "control" part of the fuel rail.

IIRC you can check fuel rail pressure with a tyre gauge but get a fully brass one, not a plastic one.

Rossko:
Pump should run briefly at key on to pressurise the rail.

After that, it's switched by a set of contacts in the AFM.   With ignition on and airfilter off, poke the flap open and pump should run.  Let the flap close and pump should stop.  If the flap is jammed shut, or you have a large air leak so there's not enough air to open it, or those contacts are stuffed, the engine will start and run a few seconds just from the initial pump prime.

BobtailBogey:
seems like an air leak just need to find it now can faintly hear it which is a start  :)
