Checking auto-box oil level
(1/1)
SteveGoodz:
Hi there good folks,
I'm in a bit of a quandry :? . I want to check the oil level in my auto-box but reading a) owners handbook, b) workshop manual and c) the dipstick itself I end up with 3 different methods for doing it:
a) The owners handbook says .... start the engine in P, move the gear selector to 1 and then back to P, engine idling
b) The workshop manual says .... N selected, engine running at normal running temperature
c) The dipstick says ... Check when cold, idling in Neutral
So, which is right? Or is there yet another way?
Cheers all :)

i always check mine idling in neutral cold seems to be the most accurate
SteveGoodz:
Thanks Neal, that what I thought it was ... in which case it needs some oil

I have tested mine using all the above methods and I take the lowest measurement. if it is below the line top up, if not, dont worry about it and carry on driving as normal!
I would love to know how to change the oil. Thats slightly harder I think! I havent done mine in over 3 years.
