The Birth of Pheonix (Technical Thread)
J.D.:
Ok...meet Pheonix (3.9 EFi V8 Discovery ES Spec). Its mint with not a hint of rust on it or in it. The body will be coming off the chassis soon with the aid of the Scammel and will be waxoyled inside and outside (not on the paint though), and the chassis, axles and suspension components will be painted bright red. (And why not!)
There will be a 4" suspension lift kit, flared arches and 35x12.5R15 BFG Mud Terrains on it (but not anytime soon!). I haven't decided for definite on the tyre size, but I want bigger than I currently have, but not so large that they look stupid!
As it arrived at mine...
I started stripping off the front end (radiator, lights, rad grille, air con rad and fans, front bumper, A bar, and PAS pump). Then i found someone had obviously duffed both the headlights at some point, as all that held them in was cable ties!
I even managed to coax my li'l sis into helping me, so set her to work undoing and removing all the interior trim in order to remove the autobox.
Then set upon the rear trim and found someone had done this to the rear offside inner wing:
Any ideas, as I haven't?
I have undone all the body mounts, speedo cable, handbrake cable, auto selector cable, steering column, brake lines and ABS wires in preparation for removing the body with the Scammel next weekend.
After separating the engine from the wiring loom. it looked a bit of a mess!

It took me long enough to convince her to give me a hand, let alone anyone else lol!

J.D.:
Ok, managed to get the engine out just before I went on holiday (now in its new home in a rather modified AC Cobra!) an when i got back I dropped the gearbox out, undid all the body mounts and blocked the body up off the chassis (allows better access to certain bits).
I then decided to have an easy day and spent the rest of the day rubbing down the suspension components ready for painting and putting new bushes in them.
The rear floor also got rubbed down and painted with anti rust paint before being undersealed on the inside. (And repairing the rear light wiring where I caught it with the wire brush disc on the grinder.
Just need to get the welder working again to do the two little holes in the front wings and the cut out in the rear wing before I can underseal the whole body and get it off the chassis to paint the chassis red.
The next job for the body is to take the auto pedal box out and replace it with a manual pedal box and put the clutch assembly in. I'm not looking forward to that job. Also need to sort out the wiring loom and make it changed from a V8 to a TDi. Will wires like the temperature gauge, alternator, oil pressure sensor and the like be the same, or do they all need rewiring rather than using the existing wiring for the V8?
