Billing aquadrome was home to "the" Land Rover show for many years under the guise of the LRO show when there was only one show, and really only one magazine.

Times moved on, and there started up other shows and the aquadrome was sold on to new owners,  over the years the show has changed hands from LRO to LRE (I'm not going into the politics here) and it was eventually decided that the show had outgrown the aquadrome site, which due to pressure from more static caravans had seen the amount of space available decline, the site (and show) had also become plagued with security issues and poor facilities (showers, toilets etc)

LRE then arranged to move the show to Kelmesh, primarily to address most of the above concerns.  However, for a variety of reasons (again, no politics) Billing Aquardome asked for another magazine to run a show at the site, to replace the one which had been moved.  Both of these shows were organised for the same weekend.

Plenty of two and froing occurred, and as it seemed that most traders and visitors were going to attend the show at the aquadrome and so the Kelmarsh show was cancelled.

Now, we're a year or so on, and the current organisers (who took over the aquadrome show after it was moved to Kelmarsh) have decided for a variety of reasons to move it to Newark.  Billing Aquadrome have once again decided to ask for assistance in running the show once again,  so once again we're left with two shows on the same weekend :(

Basically it comes down to a choice between the known deficiencies of the show at Billing Aquadrome, or the risk of a "new" show, or at least a new show ground.

V8MoneyPit:
I don't know the ins and outs of it, but if the dates were purposely chosen to coincide by one or other of the organisers, how do they expect it to be anything but bad news? At best, they halve their possible revenue. At worst, they have to cancel and loose any investment they've made in advance.

datalas:
I believe (although don't have much evidence to support this) that both times it has been the show organisers having moved away from the aquadrome and the aquadrome has arranged for another show to happen on the same weekend, presumably on the premise that the majority of people will go to Billing because "it's billing".

In the words of a good friend of ours "as long as there's a blade of grass left at Billing Aquadrome someone will try to run a Land Rover show on it"

Ridgeback:
I think we should get together as a group and make a stand against the two shows being run at the same time.
If we all stopped buying the mags and going to the shows then they would not be around for long.

Except.....

If too many people stopped buying the mags and going to the shows, they would be put out of business and there wouldn't be mags or shows. Which would you prefer, the problem of choosing which show to go to or no shows at all?
