I think on the balance of probabilities, it's stolen. There are a lot of burnt-out wrecks on byways and similar out of the way places, and if it was for a genuine reason it's likely that the owner / insurer would get it recovered pretty quickly.

Burnt-out cars are nasty - especially the hydrofluoric acid. Amputation can be the only 'cure' if you get it on you.

I e mailed the local council yesterday and they removed the remains this morning.  :P

I also recieved this e mail from them !!!! They wanted a bit more info .

Very good point
Mostly its anything made from Viton and some other High temp resisting plastics, often found in brake calipers as its fine up untill 700 degrees or so but if it gets near 1000 as in a car fire it changes state and gives off the acid.
If you get it on your skin then the only treatment is to cut the skin away, in the early days a few fire men lost fingersto it.
Its also used in mny hydrauic systems

Very cute - knowing full well there is no liklihood of finding the reg number they can claim they don't have to move it  :doh:
