Door skin coming off
pritch:
Afternoon folks,
It seems that the outer skin on one of my rear doors is parting company with the rest of the door. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Is it the sort of thing that can be pop-rivetted and then have some sort of sealant run inside the joint?
I'd rather not weld it if at all possible, as that'll involve me tracking down someone who can weld aluminium.
hobbit:
Has the steel inner of the door along the bottom rusted or just the ally choroded away
pritch:
Steel looks OK. Bit of surface rust, but that'll clean up.
I'm thinking about cleaning up both surfaces, and using some sort of adhesive, then running some sealant inside to try and keep it from rusting down there.
What say you, Mud Club?
robbie:
not sure what area is the problem, but sometimes fibreglass can sometimes do the trick. If it is structural or severe, then something more substantial may be needed
pritch:
Looking at the way that they've separated, I think I'll be able to just put some sort of sufficiently thick adhesive on the mating surfaces, which means that I don't have to fart about with fibreglass (hate that stuff)
Suppose I'd better do it soon. I'm in danger of lopping pedestrians off at the knee if it gets any worse!
