Blessed Thing Won't Start

Right, now I'm getting a bit annoyed!

Went out to start the Disco (V8 with LPG) this morning and it won't go  :(  The engine churns over okay but there's no sign of life ... hell of a smell of petrol but no vroom vroom!

Decided to leave it until this evening and try again ... same result (what did I expect? Like it was gonna fix itself?).

Now I'm thinking immobiliser/dizzy/coil - am I on the right track?

This is a Jap import - does it have the same immobiliser as the UK model? Would a spider fit? Is there life on Mars? Does Ziggy still play guitar?

Suggestions, in a plain brown envelope to the usual address please  :?

Range Rover Blues:
The frequency of the transmitter is different for Jap models but it's the same imobiliser.  I'd be surprised if it cranks though if it's imobilised.

Check for a spark, in fact check for power to the coil first then check for a spark.  Take the plugs out and dry them too.

SteveGoodz:
Thanks for the info RRB. I'm so busy this week it'll have to wait for the weekend before I can get to iy again.

I read an article about the dreaded spider problem which suggests that, depending on which bit of the spider has failed, it's still possible to crank the engine but not have it fire up. I'm kinda hoping it's something simpler .. like maybe a blown fuse?

forkarm:
Once you are sure all the fuses are ok try putting a live feed to the + side of the coil and try
starting. If it fires up then it will probably be the spider.I have seen a few that will crank all
day but not fire up because of this. You then can either repair the spider unit or fit a by-pass
wiring plug. It's not that bad of a job.
 good luck

SteveGoodz:
Confused? Well I am!

I've tried to start this blessed car several times this week and got nowhere (fast). Took the battery out last night to give it a charge ready for some serious fault finding today. Put it back in the morning and .... VROOM!! First turn of the key it's fired up and happily burbling away as if nothing was ever wrong

It's days like this that make you wonder why you don't drive a ToyMota  [-X [-X

Got the local garage to check the battery out - okay. Charging voltage - okay.

Here's another thing - this motor (imported Japanese variety) doesn't appear to have an alarm fitted so is it likely to have an immobiliser?
