p38 economy
JIMBOBLY:
has anyone on here got a p38 2.5dt,just wondering what they are like on diesel?
turbonutter:
i had one a few years back , its was a manual and i think i was getting 25 mpg
if u get them chipped they are better on fuel still not that great
saying that i bet im not getting anywhere near 25 mpg from my disco with a 200tdi auto and 37" boogers
waveydavey:
Depends on what you are doing:
General tank fulls mixed of driving 25mpg
heavy town work down to 22 possibly even less
good run at a sensible speed anything up to 33
Towing brings it down to 25 again - if you are in SA where its legal to tow at 75mph that comes down even further
That is all on an Auto box
thermidorthelobster:
On that basis, you're better off with a gassed 4.6. You should be able to get a similar cost per mile and it's a lot more fun!

Probably true but there are a few other points to consider:
Look at my location - the equations work very differently
Those MPG's are actual rather than an "I can get"
You don't have to have a gas tank in the back so you either get more boot space or keep your spare wheel
I don't know of a garage that doesn't have a diesel pump anywhere - worldwide!
This one Gauls me to say it but the fact is that with a Diesel P38 you get BMW reliability!
